Another way to help foster children in Orange County is to make pillow cases.  The Foster Care Auxiliary gives them out at the picnic each year where over 500 people attend.  The children have a great time picking their favorite pillow case, then using it to carry all of their prizes in, and then, of course, taking it home to put on their pillow and sleep with the pillow case that they have chosen.  Find directions for making these easy and fun pillow cases at www.orangegrovequiltersguild.com on the 'Mission Statement' page.

This quilt was made as a challenge at Orange Grove Quilters Guild www.orangegrovequiltersguild.com Each person in the challenge had to use some very 'challenging' fabric which I chose to use as the sandals and sunglasses.  The quilt was voted by guild members as most humorous and think it's a perfect quilt to raffle at the Foster Care Auxiliary's first Spring Fest on March 18th, 2007.

Winner of quilt for raffle drawing in October '03; Laura Nelson

Laura wrote by e-mail after receiving her quilt:

"Hi Kathy, I can't stop looking at my quilt!  The beauty is reflected in every stitch you put into this magnificent piece of art.  The combination of colors you've chosen and the stitch patterns are remarkable, and it fits my home perfectly.  Our family just loves it!  I feel honored to have won such a beauty, but even better for having contributed to such a worthy cause.  I have to tell you... the real bonus for me was to meet you and your son.  He's a great kid, and such a great help with taking photos!  You are as special as your quilts.  The time, energy and love that you give is evident in every stitch you make.  I'm so happy and honored to have won your quilt.  Thanks again for all you do.  Laura Nelson"   (451)

The quilt that Laura won was donated by ...me, Kathy Harvey of Sweet Relish Quilting
